Sir,
As per news reports, The country’s apex court has urged the state governments to make amendments in laws to curb adulteration in milk with a provision of life imprisonment. This direction of the apex court is indicating the fact that adulteration in milk going on at a massive scale in our country remains a tedious problem to tackle with the existing laws. Most of the samples of milk collected by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) revealed in 2011 massive adulteration . We in Jammu see checking and testing of the milk being given a secondary importance and the result is that milk continues to be adulterated with urea, detergents, water, and other substances and sold in the market. Worst are the milk products like cheese, curd etc; not to speak about the sweets sold. Symbolic testing on festivals is an eye wash . Politics and other types of pressures including corruption are some other problems in the way of checking of this anti human practice. It is important direction by the Supreme court which the state government must respect by proper legislation.
Yours etc….
Amit Sethi
