SRINAGAR, Nov 27: Scores of fishes were found dead today at a fish farm located in the Bonkoot area of Bandipora district.
According to reports, the farm belongs to Riyaz Ahmad Lone, who set it up after securing a loan and financial assistance from the Fisheries Department.

“The water to the farm flows through a pipe connected to a nearby stream; it appears that the pipe has been damaged by unknown miscreants,” he said.
It is important to note that this alleged act of vandalism has wiped out an entire year’s worth of fish production, causing damage worth lakhs of rupees.
“We had set up the farm to provide livelihood to the people. Four of us have been working round the clock, taking care of the farm, hoping for better results. But now, our dream has been shattered,” he said.
Those operating the farm stated that they had taken a loan of Rs 20 lakh in addition to assistance from the concerned department.
“We have suffered huge losses; this must be investigated to determine who is behind this act,” they said.
They informed that the police have already taken note of the matter and are probing to identify and apprehend those involved.
Locals have also condemned the incident, demanding swift action from authorities to apprehend the culprits.
Abdul Razzaq, a local resident, said, “This is a cruel act that has shattered the hard work and aspirations of a young man. Those involved must face the consequences of their actions.”
The administration has assured a thorough investigation into the matter, while neighbours and friends have come forward to offer support and assistance to the farm owner.
