Scooty rider killed in mishap

JAMMU, July 22: A scooty-borne man was killed today in a road mishap in Gangyal area on city outskirts.
According to a police official, a speeding Eeco Van bearing registration number JK11C-3561 hit a scooty (registration number JK02BK-2629) near Gangyal Chowk on National Highway. He said in the mishap, which occurred today at about 12:30 AM, the scooty rider namely Tejinder Singh (37) son of Gurbachan Singh, resident of Kotli Arjan Singh (RS Pura), received serious injuries after which he was immediately rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, where he was declared as brought dead by the doctors.
“While the van involved in the mishap was seized on the spot, the accused driver was arrested this morning as he had fled from the scene of crime during night hours,” the official said, adding the arrested driver has been identified as Vishal Kumar son of Badri Nath, resident of Kalakote (Rajouri).
He further said that a case in this connection was registered at police station Gangyal and the body of the deceased was handed over to his legal heirs for last rites after completion of all medico-legal formalities.
