JAMMU, June 11: Stone Crusher Owners’ Association (SCOA) today appealed High Court of Jammu and Kashmir to lift ban on mining from River Tawi.
In a press conference organized here by Choudhary Vikram Randhawa, president SCOA, said that the last hope for justice is Court and the decision of the High Court to quash the penalties imposed arbitrarily on various stone crusher units by the former District Mining Officer (DMO) Jammu Ankur Sachdeva, has reposed the faith of the common man in judiciary.
He said that a plea was moved in the Court against the penalties imposed arbitrarily by the former DMO which was immediately stayed by the Court giving a breather to all the unit holders and now quashing of penalties is a very big relief to all of us. He said that they were not in a position to pay such a huge amount as penalty as their units were lying defunct since two years.
Randhawa also pleaded before the High Court to look into the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against mining from River Tawi as the mining mafia is looting the grey gold and the common man is suffering. He said that removing ban from mining will give a breather to the common man who is purchasing minor mineral at triple rate.
“Ban on mining in River Tawi does not mean that the extraction is not taking place but removing ban and regulating mining from the Tawi belt would not only stop theft of grey gold but will bring the rates of minor mineral down”, Randhawa added. In the last Randhawa appealed the High Court of J&K to remove ban on mining from River Tawi.
Others present on the occasion were Vijay Sharma, Sunil Bharti, Kuldeep Saini, Chain Singh, Vinod Sharma, Parveendev Singh, Susheel Choudhary and Someshwar Sharma.
