Scientists visit JU to discuss Indo-German joint project on saffron

JAMMU, Nov 6: Prof Barbara Reinhold and Dr Thomas Hurek from University of Bremen, Germany had an interaction with Prof RD Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu.
During the discussion various ideas about the teaching and research in higher education were discussed.
Prof Barbara Reinhold and Dr Thomas Hurek were on ten day visit to School of Biotechnology, University of Jammu. The visit was in connection to the project, sanctioned to Prof Jyoti Wakhlu and Prof Barbara Reinhold, funded by both Indian and German Governments under DST-DAAD exchange programme for collaboration between scientists in Germany and India.
The project is on the study of saffron, as it is an important crop of the State. The objective is to study plant-pathogen-biocontrol interaction in saffron and develop the corm rot resistant varieties in future. In addition to delivering lecture on their area of research that is “plant-microbe interaction, they also delivered lectures to the masters students, in the common subject Molecular Biology being taught at both the Universities.
The researchers also visited Bhaderwah Campus of the University and interacted with Rector Bhaderwah Campus, Prof GM Bhat, a well-known geologist of the State.
