LEH/KARGIL, Apr 20: In response to the worsening weather conditions across Ladakh, authorities in both Leh and Kargil districts have announced the closure of all private and Government schools for three days, from April 21 to April 23.

In Leh, Chief Education Officer issued an official order citing continuous rainfall and snowfall that have created hazardous conditions, prompting the precautionary closure to ensure the safety of students and school staff.
A similar directive was issued in Kargil following a review meeting chaired by the Chairman-cum-Chief Executive Councilor. Officials unanimously decided to close all private and government educational institutions in light of the inclement weather conditions.
Ladakh region has witnessed significant snowfall and rainfall over the last 24 hours, causing major disruptions, especially road connectivity There are growing concerns over landslides, rockfalls, and related hazards. Roads connecting Nubra, Zanskar and other remote areas have remained blocked due to the accumulation of snow and landslides.
Sonam Lotus, Director of the Meteorological Department in Ladakh, forecasted that rain and snowfall are expected to continue in many areas until late tonight, with gradual improvement thereafter. He also warned of potential landslides, flash floods, and falling rocks, especially in vulnerable areas. Tourists and residents have been advised to remain vigilant and relocate to safer locations, if necessary.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely while urging the public to stay indoors and follow safety advisories.
