Srinagar, Dec 10: A private school was torched in South Kashmir today while police foiled a separatist march to United Nations Military Observers Office in Srinagar on the occasion of International Human Rights Day.
Police said that Public English Medium School at Haand Setapora was torched at South Kashmir district of Shopian district this evening. The fire tenders and locals rushed to the spot to douse the flames but the building suffered major damage.
Police used force to foil a separatist march to the UNMOGIP office at Sonwar Srinagar on the occasion of International Human Rights day. The protest by its activists was stopped outside Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.
The protest started from Jamia Masjid peacefully but as they reached Khawaja Bazaar near Naqshband Sahab’s shrine, police and CRPF stopped them marching ahead.
Another protest was taken out from Maisuma area of Srinagar, which was also stopped by police.
The separatist leaders including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, APHC chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and senior Hurriyat leader Mukhtar Ahmad Waza were placed under house arrest to prevent them from leading the protest marches.

Shops and commercial establishments were closed in Qoimoh area of Kulgam and Vessu village of Qazigund – respective native areas of Majid Zargar and Rahil Amin.
