NEW DELHI:
Scholarships for Jammu and Kashmir youth, studying in various parts of the country, are decreasing and they are not getting money, a member said in the Rajya Sabha today and saw some others associating.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Nazir Ahmed Laway (PDP) said the number of scholarships are dwindling.
He said a scheme was envisaged in 2010 for providing 5,000 scholarships to students from the state in institutions all over the country for enhancing their employment opportunities.
In 2013, 3,747 students were given the scholarships and in 2014 their numbers were reduced to only 1,000 and no scholarships are being given to them even though around 12,000 crore was earmarked for the scheme.
“They have been taken out of colleges. They have been left in the lurch. They have no money to even go home and are left of their own on roadsides. I have written to the HRD Minister but nothing is being done. Something should be done about the students from Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
Supporting him, Sharad Yadav (JD-U) said it was an important issue and the initiative was taken for solving the problem of J&K and Government should take it seriously and take some action for integrating those from J&K. (AGENCIES)
