JAMMU, Feb 25: The Sikh Coordination Committee of Jammu and Kashmir, under the chairmanship of Ajit Singh today announced expansion of its central and district level teams to further strengthen the body for welfare of the community.
The development was made following a thumping support from the community members from different regions of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
While addressing the press conference, Ajit Singh, Chairman of the Sikh Coordination Committee, highlighted the committee’s commitment to address the concerns and issues faced by the Sikh community in the region. He said established under the guidance of Mahant Manjit Singh, chief of Shiromani Dera Nangali Sahib Poonch, the Sikh Coordination Committee comprises eminent persons from various sectors within the Sikh community, including academicians, bureaucrats, businessmen, technocrats and social activists.
“Since its inception, the committee has been actively engaged in advocating for the resolution of key issues affecting the Sikh community. Among the notable achievements of the Sikh Coordination Committee, are the successful advocacy for the implementation of the Anand Marriage Act in the JKUT and the installation of the statue of Baba Gurbaksh Singh (Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Ji),” Ajit Singh said, adding that the committee is also accentuating issues pertaining to the community from time to time.
“In order to strengthen presence at the grassroots level, it was unanimously decided to augment the team by including members from diverse backgrounds and constituting units and sub-units in all districts of the Jammu and Kashmir UT,” said Ajit Singh.
As a part of this expansion initiative, new members have been welcomed into the Sikh Coordination Committee, and new units have been established for districts Kathua and Anantnag.
“The committee plans to continue this expansion by establishing additional units and sub-units in the near future, with further announcements forthcoming,” Ajit Singh added.
Earlier, legal advisor of the Committee, Bikramdeep Singh informed the media persons that the Sikh Coordination Committee reaffirms its dedication to serving the interests of the Sikh community and looks forward to work collaboratively with its expanded team to address prevailing challenges and advocate for positive change.
