JAMMU, Oct 26: All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations today highlighted its demands including implementation of 27% reservation for OBCs in newly formed UT of Jammu and Kashmir and warned the State administration that if its demands are not met, it will observe black day on November 3.
Addressing a meeting of the Confederation, RK Kalsota, its State president asked the Government to fulfill the demand of OBCs to implement Reservation in Promotions in the newly formed UT of J&K with backdate effect since Oct 2015 and clearing of 1 lakh pending backlogs of SC/ST/OBCs in various departments.
“The official declaration of erstwhile state of J&K to UT of J&K is going to take place on 31st October 2019. Around 106 Central laws are going to be implemented by the Government in the new UT. Few State laws which were already working are still going to function. But due to historic wrong done to the vulnerable sections of SC/ST/OBCs by not giving adequate reservation to them, it’s high time that with this new shift in the administrative rubric of the State, Government takes into account the needs of such sections,” he emphasized.
Kalsotra said that the Confederation has decided that if these demands are not fulfilled by the Government, the Confederation will observe black day on 3rd November 2019, here in Jammu and Kashmir. He said that reservation is a constitutional right enshrined on SC/ST/OBCs and thus it should be implemented with no delay. He also said that OBCs believe in the unity of the nation and political moves like abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35A does not impact them unless and until they are given their rights in a constitutional way.
