SRINAGAR, Sept 9: The State unit of All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organizations will gherao the Civil Secretariat on November 6 if reservation in promotion is not restored in the State.
This was decided unanimously by the participants of “Save Rights Conference”, which was organized today here at Kashmir University, Srinagar. The conference was attended by about 3000 people from all regions of the State. The function also commemorated the 125th Birth Anniversary of Baba Sahib Dr B R Ambedkar.
Presiding over the function, State president of the Confederation, R K Kalsotra, in his address, stated that some sections of the society are trying their level best to make changes in the constitution drafted by Dr Ambedkar and to restore the Varna System in the present setup, which is totally unacceptable and the Confederation will fight tirelessly to protect the Constitution.
He further added that the Confederation is in favour of Article 370 and Article 35A as these are additional incentives to the poor and downtrodden classes of the society in our State and it is very unfortunate that the successive Governments in the State have failed to utilize these additional incentives for the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden in the State which has led to erosion of the rights granted to the depressed classes such as discontinuation of reservation in promotion, creation of backlog, no funding in SC/ST Plan and no timely scholarship for poor reserved category students.
He informed that the Confederation has submitted a memorandum of demands to Governor Satya Pal Malik and his Advisor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai, through email today in which the issues related to SC/ST/OBC’s have been raised.
Kalsotra also apprised the gathering that the National Chairman of Confederation, Dr Udit Raj has given a call for a national rally at Ram Leela Ground in New Delhi on 3rd December to highlight the demands of the depressed classes.
