JAMMU, Jan 20: All India Confederation of SC/ST/OBC Organisations along with the cadre and National Students & Youth Front ( NSOSYF) held a protest at Ambedkar Chowk, here against the Government for not accepting genuine demands of Safai Karamcharis who are on strike.
The Confederation alleged that these poor workers are not being regularised and even not given full salary. Many of them have been serving for the last 5-10 years and even more. This class can be considered as the torch bearer of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan but ignored at all level. They are denied National holidays like 26th January, 15th August, Diwali, Eid, Christmas etc.
While addressing the protest, R Kalsotra, president said the matter was taken up with the Advisor Khursheed Ahmed Ganai and he has given positive assurance in this regard. The matter with regard to compensate these workers for not giving them national holidays was also taken up.
He also projected the issue of SC, ST & OBC unemployed youth whose pending backlog is not being fulfilled.
Ashwani Bhagat, State coordinator NSOSYF urged upon the Govt to clear pending backlog. He warned to intensify their struggle.
A large number of youth gathered near the statue of Dr BR Ambdekar and lodged a protest against the authorities.
Others who spoke on the occasion included Kulwant Singh, Zakir Hussain (YAC), Shashi Syal, Mohd Shafi Bajjad, S Devinder Singh, Amar Mamoon, Satish Borker, Mahant Ram Puri, Naseeb Samyial, Azam Melu, Sat Pal and others.
