SC seeks Government response on safe passage for pilgrims in Kishtwar

NEW DELHI, Aug 13: The Supreme Court today directed the State of Jammu and Kashmir to respond to a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking safe passage for Amarnath pilgrims stranded in the curfew-bound Kishtwar district in Jammu.

The apex court also directed J&K chief secretary to file a detailed affidavit explaining the steps taken by the State Government to control communal violence in Kishtwar.

The petition filed by Panthers party chief Bhim Singh has prayed to the apex court to direct the authorities to ensure safe passage for stranded Amarnath pilgrims who were facing tremendous hardship after the stoppage of Amarnath yatra in the wake of communal violence in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

The apex court today issued notices to State of Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, there are reports that Amarnath yatra has been resumed.
