SC notice to EC on plea seeking probe into discrepancies in 2019 LS polls data

NEW DELHI, Dec 13: The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on a plea seeking an investigation into the alleged discrepancies in voter turnout and votes counted in the 17th Lok Sabha polls.

A bench, headed by Chief Justice of India (CJI) S A Bobde, issued notice to the ECI on the plea of  two NGOs – Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Common Cause.

“We issue notice to the ECI, and seek response on these petitions. Let them file a detailed response. We will hear the case now at a later date,” the bench said.

The petitioners pleaded to the Apex Court that the actual and accurate reconciliation of (votes) data must be considered before declaration of final results.

After hearing the petitions, the Top Court tagged their petitions with a similar plea already filed by TMC (Trinamool Congress) Member of Parliament (MP) MP,  Mahua Moitra.

“We are tagging these two petitions along with the one already pending. We will hear these (petitions) together, at a later stage after getting a response from the concerned authority,” the bench said. (UNI)
