NEW DELHI, Dec 24:
Chief Justices of three High Courts were today elevated as judges of the Supreme Court, increasing the strength of the apex court to 28.
M Y Eqbal, Chief Justice of Orissa High Court Venkategowda and Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Vikramjit Sen were administered the oath of office by CJI Altamas Kabir.
Union Law ministry had earlier sought some clarifications from the Supreme Court collegium headed by the CJI on the instructions of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about some complaints aginst Justices Eqbal and Gowda.
The collegium clarified to the government that those complaints have already been examined and were found motivated. (agencies)
