NEW DELHI: SC directs political parties to upload on their website details of pending criminal cases against candidates contesting polls.
Political parties will have to specify reasons for selecting candidates having pending criminal cases against them on their website said SC.
Political parties will publish details of pending criminal cases against candidates on social media platforms and newspapers said SC.
Political parties shall submit report of compliance to EC within 74 hrs of selecting candidate with pending criminal cases said SC.
If parties fail to comply with its directions on candidates with pending criminal cases, EC shall bring it to notice of apex court said SC.
SC says there has been an alarming increase in criminalisation of politics in last 4 general elections. (agencies)
