Since the lockdown has brought almost all activities to a screeching halt, the brunt among others has been faced by the migrant workers in a substantial way which is accentuated by their earnings mostly on daily basis getting lost. The Central and State /UT Governments have been conscious of their problems but not letting the very purpose of the lockdown get defeated, evacuation of these stranded workers until recently could not take place. Supreme Court has, in matters of the bearing cost of travel of these stranded people, directed that their travel should be absolutely free. In this connection, we are given to understand that after some initial confusion over the issue, things have reportedly been smoothened and the issue of cost of travel of the workers and other stranded ones reportedly duly settled. They are not to be charged anything, instead the expenses are to be borne by the centre and the states in agreed proportion.
The directives of the Supreme Court over all, however, are binding and to be followed much to the relief and succour of the migrant workers. A proper liaison between various officials at different vital points of the travel was important for the accomplishment of the basic purpose for which these migrant workers, likeother sections of the society, suffered too much.
