JAMMU, July 13: State Bank of India (SBI) Chairman, Dinesh Kumar Khara today inaugurated an ATM at Khardung-la Pass in Leh at an altitude of 18379 ft.
Khardung-la is world’s highest motorable pass and gateway to famous attractions like Shyok and Nubra area of Leh, Ladakh.
A handout stated that this place bears the bleakest weather conditions with temperatures ranging from -36C to 7C due to which the place remains cut off from rest of the world for most of the year.
With the inauguration of ATM services at Khardung-la, SBI has become the first bank to provide this service at a geographically disapproving site. The ATM services will simplify lives of the people living in the region by providing them with services at par with other people besides aiding the banking services for defence personnel posted in the area.
The handout further stated that the bank is committed to provide financial support to the people at all places, that is why SBI is trying to reach all directions and to all the people to find any uncovered area for providing the provision of banking and related services there.
