Sawhney flays Govt for not acting timely on COVID

JAMMU, May 2: Former Minister and senior Congress leader, Yogesh Sawhney on Sunday flayed the BJP led Government claiming that had it acted well in time many lives could have been saved from COVID-19 pandemic.
In a handout, the Congress leader said, India has had more COVID-19 cases in the last seven days than anywhere else in the world.
“The second Coronavirus wave has hit the country worse and it is extremely painful and distressing,” he said adding that countless are suffering of patients due to lack of oxygen, shortage of hospital beds, staff and equipments.
Sawhney said that the government should focus all its attention and might in strengthening healthcare industry, Oxygen plants, ensuring availability of hospital beds and facilities for patients and bolster the healthcare infrastructure.
“There is no denying that huge political rallies and processions ignored social distancing and the delayed response which came only after the situation slipped out of hands reflects serious neglect,” he maintained.
The Congress leader said that the Government needs to wake now and pick up pace to control the situation.
“If money is the problem and cause of Government’s reluctant action, then we as political workers and leaders can make personal contributions across the nation to facilitate ground level work such as building isolation wards, oxygen plants etc,” he further said.
