Savitribai Phule Library, Reading Room inaugurated

JAMMU, Apr 23: Savitribai Phule Reading Room and Library was inaugurated by Dr. Lalit Magotra, renowned Dogri writer and Prof. Rekha Chowdhary, former Head of Department of Political Science, University of Jammu at Main Road Thikrian in RS Pura, near here today.
The Library is being run by Samvaad Trust (Registered). The event started with welcome of the dignitaries including chief guest and guest of honour by a trustee member, Dr. Manik Sharma.
Dr. Manik Sharma elaborated the main purpose of the Library for which it was established in the rural area of the RS Pura. He said that the Library is established with a purpose to promote reading culture and awareness in the concerned area.
Monika, a social activist delivered a speech on the life and contribution of Savitribai Phule and explained her contribution in promotion of education especially in women, while Amit Kumar explained the concept, structure and objectives of the Trust before the audience.
Chief guest Prof. Lalit Magotra appreciated the initiative of the Trust and said that the Library and Reading Room will go a long way to promote the reading culture among youth and students and become a platform for interaction of diverse ideas in the society. He also promised to contribute 500 books for the Library from his personal collection of books.
The guest of honour, Prof. Rekha Chowdhary also commended the literary initiative and marked it as a unique attempt to develop reading culture. She also suggested various suggestions to promote the reach of the Library among the target group. She also suggested a separate section for children in the Library so that children of schools in the vicinity should be engaged.
In the end, the vote of thanks was delivered by Parveen Kumar to all the guests and participants and team of Samvaad for materializing the idea of the Library in the rural area.
