KATHUA, July 10: Sarpanchs and Panchs from remote Duggan and Bani blocks staged protest dharna outside the office of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Bani today.
A large number of Panchayat members from these two blocks assembled at main Bazaar Bani and then moved towards the office of SDM in the form of a rally. They were raising slogans in support of their demands.
Nearly hundred Sarpanchs and Panchs held demonstration at the office of SDM and later sat on dharna. They raised slogans against the Minister for Rural Development and Law Ali Mohd Sagar, Director RDD and concerned officers.
These agitating Sarpanchs alleged that BDO office staff does not take them into confidence while allotting and approving works in various Panchayats. They alleged that all the decisions are taken in consultation with the MLAs/ MLCs only. They further alleged that many works on their suggestion are never initiated by the BDO and his staff and they hardly find any chair for them to sit when ever they visit BDO office in connection with public works.
They demanded that Sarpanchs/ Panchs be given powers and they should be taken into confidence while initiating any work in their respective Panchayats. ‘Sarpanchs’ Uttam Chand, Des Raj and Mansa Ram also addressed the gathering.
Later, they submitted a memorandum to SDM, Rajinder Sharma for the concerned Minister.
