RAJOURI, Dec 25: A Sarpanch was among two persons brutally assaulted by a Forest Guard and his associates in Thanamandi Rajouri this evening.
The victims, identified as Mohd Hussain, Sarpanch of Magota Bi in Thanamandi and Haji Munir Hussain, were attacked with sharp edged weapons and axes by Forest Guard Mohd Shabir and his associates.
The duo was assaulted when they were on way to home at Magota this evening. They were rescued by some locals who also rushed the injured victim to Thanamandi Hospital where doctors referred them to District Hospital Rajouri.
Reports said that the accused Forest Guard also opened fire when people tried to rescue the victims.
Up in arms against the assault, some people held a protest demonstration and blocked the Shahadra Chowk road for more than an hour. They were demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
Later Tehsildar Thanamandi, Farooq Khan reached the spot and pacified people by assuring action in this regard.
