Sapphire smuggler arrested with pieces of precious gemstones

RAMBAN, Jan 18: Banihal police arrested a sapphire smuggler and recovered pieces of precious gemstones from his possession.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Banihal Police Station laid a naka near T Chowk and intercepted a man, who was moving under suspicious circumstances.
During checking, police recovered 63 pieces of sapphire gemstones from the possession of the man and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Mohammad Shafi Zargar, son of Ghulam Hussain Zargar, a resident of New Samna Colony, District Kishtwar.
During preliminary investigation, the accused revealed that he bought the consignment from Anantnag for selling in Jammu and adjoining areas.
A case under FIR Number 7/19 under section 4/5 Sapphire Act has been registered at Police Station Banihal and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Banihal Inspector Aijaz Ahmed Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Sajjad Sarwar, Additional SP Ramban Sanjay Parihar and SSP Ramban Anita Sharma.
