In previous era, people used to calculate time to predict arrival of rain. The root of the Hindi word ‘Varsha’ (rain) is ‘Varsh’ (year). At that time the calculation of time was based mainly on the sun and the moon. On the basis of their movements, day-night, fortnight, month, season, ayan, and the year were calculated. Jyotish was also used to calculate the auspicious time for performing yajnas etc,” he said, adding that if we want to know all such things then we must have to learn Sanskrit.
On the occasion, Professor M C Sharma, former Director and Vice-Chancellor, ICAR- Indian Veterinary Research Institute and Deemed University, Izatnagar; Rajeshwar Shastri, Ashok Shastri, Pandit Dev Dutt Shastri, Ajay Bharti and Vijay Shastri were also present.
