JAMMU, Sept 19: Sanskrit scholars today met national vice president BJP, Avinash Rai Khanna, State president BJP, Sat Sharma , Member of Parliament, Jugal Kishore and others at Srinagar. The delegation was led by Kailakh Jyotish Avim Vedic Sansthan Trust president, Mahant Rohit Shastri.
The delegation presented memorandum and Ragvendra Panchang to him and appealed him to connect Sanskrit language to Digital and Skill India Mission. The delegation also demanded increase in intake capacity of the seats at Mata Vaishno Devi Sanskrit Gurukul Katra by hundred so that more number of young scholars come out.
Sanskrit scholars also demanded setting up of a separate Sanskrit Department in Shri Mata Vashano Devi (SMVD) University to provide a platform facilitating education and research in the field of this ancient and culturally rich language and opening of Sanskrit University in J&K.
Shastri also demanded a separate Ministry for Sanskrit, which can provide scholarship to young scholars and sanction reservations quota in University lectureship and teaching assistantship. Mahant Rohit Shastri requested Khana and others to raise the issue of deteriorating condition of Sanskrit language in Lok Sabha & State Assembly and make it compulsory from 6th standard in schools so that the more number of scholars get appointed in schools and new carrier opportunities get opened up for them.
He also requested BJP leader for up gradation of Shri Raghunath Sanskrit Maha Vidhalaya Birpur to College level institute so that young scholars seek their further studies and establish various milestone in Sanskrit field.
As Jammu is known as the city of temples but the students pursuing studies in Sanskrit language have to suffer on account of dearth of facilities and opportunities.
Khanna and other BJP leaders assured Rohit Shastri that they will put their demands before State and Central Government and will take this issue before HRD Minister also.
On the occassion, State BJP general secretary Dr Narinder Singh, MLC Vikram Radhawa, Ali Mohd.Mir (vice chairman SICOP) and others were also present.
