Samba police seizes 124 kgs of poppy straw, arrests driver

JAMMU, Sept 14: In a major breakthrough in its drive against drugs, District Police Samba has arrested a narcotics smuggler and recovered consignment of about 124 kgs of poppy straw (Bhukki) like substance at special checkpoint establishment on NHW Mansar Morh in the jurisdiction of Samba Police Station (PS).
A police party of PS Samba while performing vehicle checking duty at naka checkpoint NHW Mansar Morh, Samba signaled to stop a truck bearing Registration Number PB05AK/7983 which tried to flee but was chased by police and caught at Police Post Mansar Morh.
During checking of the vehicle, apart from fruit laden boxes, 13 boxes were found with poppy straw-like substance weighing about 124 kgs which was stashed tactically in fruit boxes to avoid being noticed by the police during the search.
The accused person identified as Rajvir Singh son of Jarnail Singh of Hussain Pur, Lalowal district Hoshiarpur, Punjab has been arrested on the spot and the recovered contraband substance was seized. Moreover, the vehicle was also seized on the spot.
In this regard, case FIR No. 231/2022 U/S 8/15/25 NDPS Act registered at PS Samba and further investigation is in progress.
