JAMMU, Dec 16: In its continuous drive against bovine smuggling, Ghagwal Police today foiled a bovine smuggling bid and rescued eight bovine animals during a Naka at Ghagwal.
A police Party headed by Inspector Rakesh Sharma, SHO P/S Ghagwal under the supervision of Varinder Singh, Dy SP HQ Samba, during a naka intercepted a vehicle (TATA Mobile) bearing registration No. JK08B-9588 as it suspected that the vehicle was carrying bovine animals. During the checking the police found that the vehicle was loaded with eight bovine animals which were being illegally transported. On seeing the Police Naka at Ghagwal, the driver of the vehicle fled away leaving the vehicle before the Police Naka. Accordingly, the vehicle was seized and Case FIR No. 93/2015 U/S 188 RPC, 2/3 PC Act was registered at P/S Ghagwal and investigation carried on. Efforts are being made to nab the driver of the vehicle.
Meanwhile the SSP Samba has issued directives to all police officers of the district to take stern action against bovine smugglers. Police said during the current year, 38 bovine smuggling cases were registered in District Samba in which 44 bovine smugglers were booked under law, 34 vehicles used in such smuggling were seized and 322 bovine animals were rescued. By foiling the bovine smuggling bids, District Police Samba has sent a strong message to the bovine smugglers to de-associate themselves from this illegal activity.
