Police resorts to tear-gassing to quell stone pelters

SAMBA, Nov 15: Police resorted to tear gassing to quell the mob which resorted to heavy stone pelting during an anti-encroachment drive launched by district administration Samba, at Balole nullah in Bari Brahmana area today.
However no one was injured in the teargas shelling, police said. It said six persons were arrested by Bari Brahmana Police who included four female and two male protestors who were leading stone pelting.
As the police team and officers of district administration led by ADC Samba, Arun Manhas reached near Balole nullah in Bari Brahmana area where a section, Gujjars had encroached the industrial land, for removal of encroachment a strong resistance was shown by the land mafia who resorted to stone pelting forcing the police and officers to beat a hasty retreat. Later more force was pressed into service and police resorted to teargas shelling to quell the mob.
During the drive 40 kanals of SIDCO and State Government land was retrieved at village Birpur, Bari Brahmana. The drive was launched under the directives of Deputy Commissioner, Samba, Sushma Chauhan.
ADC Samba Arun Manhas said during the eviction drive the team demolished illegally constructed wall, 20-30 temporary and permanent structure including ramps, tin shed, hoardings and other illegally constructed structures. “The SIDCO and Government land in Khasra No.1734 near Balole Nallah, village Birpur in Bari-Brahmana which was under illegal occupants was today retrieved after completion of anti-encroachment drive, he added.
He said a strong resentment was made by the land mafia however district administration Samba overcame all hurdles and successfully retrieved 40 kanals of land.
Vijay Kumar, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Vijaypur, Saqib Saleem Tehsildar, Bari-Brahmana and SDPO were also present during the anti-encroachment drive.
