SRINAGAR, Apr 29: The actor Salman Khan who is in Kashmir for shooting Kabir Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan adopted an impoverished widow’s family in South Kashmir.
Khan adopted the family when the family’s 75-year-old matriarch, Zaina Begum, met the actor while he was filming in Pahalgam with a request for help.
Zaina Begum has been struggling, with her 40-year-old widowed daughter Dilshada Jaan, to raise four grandchildren through alms and begging.
When the news of Salman’s arrival spread in the area, a neighbour asked Zaina to meet the actor. She went to his sets and met the actor who listened to her for an hour.
Khan adopted the family and immediately, put her eldest grandson,18-year-old Gowhar Ahmad Bhat to work on the sets. Bhat has mother, three sisters – Rukaiya Jaan, 15, Khalida Jaan, 12, and Khushboo Jaan, 10- and grandmother. Bhat will be with the unit till film shoot ends in Kashmir and will fly with him to Mumbai.
