JAMMU, Dec 26: Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo today reviewed the implementation of the Centrally sponsored Condensed Course of Education Scheme (CCES) aimed at to help female drop outs between 15-35 age group to continue their education.
The meeting held threadbare discussion on the measures to ensure effective implementation of the flagship education scheme aimed at increasing female literacy.
Secretary Education, Farooq Ahmed, Secretary Social Welfare Department, Gazzenfer Hussain, Director School Education, Kashmir, M. S. Rather, Director School Education, Jammu, Dev Lata, Consultant SSA, Mohammad Rafi, Executive Director/Secretary J&K Social Welfare Board, Gazzenfer Ali, OSD, Dr. G.N. Itoo and other officers of the concerned departments attended the meeting.
While giving details of the project, the Secretary of the Board elaborated that presently 25 informal courses, as sanctioned by the Central Social Welfare Board, are being run under Condensed Course of Education Scheme with Rs. 25 lakh as financial target.
Under this programme the Board provides financial assistance to non-governmental/voluntary organizations for conducting 2 year Middle, Matric level condensed courses for female school drop outs in the age group of 15-35 years. Besides one year course is also sanctioned for Matric fail candidates.
It was informed in the meeting that the Social Welfare Board has some women related programmes, of which Condensed Course of Education was one of the important programmes providing for part time education to the girls beyond 8th class, who due to different reasons, are forced to discontinue their studies. The Social Welfare Board has received the allocations of some new vocational courses, but the sanctions are yet to be received from Central Social Welfare Board due to non-availability of the details about number of drop out girls. The Ministry of Women and Child Development, GOI has put a condition that the Base line Survey about the details should be provided by Education Department based on latest census figures.
In view of the importance of the project for providing of alternate source of education to the girls from the age group of 15 to 35 years, the Minister stressed for a close co-ordination between the officers of Education and Social Welfare Departments, so that the required results can be achieved on priority basis.
The Minister directed the officers of the concerned departments to speed up the identification of the bottlenecks, if any in the effective implementation of the scheme.
