JAMMU, July 24: Stressing for maintaining close coordination among various departments, the Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo today asked the functionaries of all vital departments to adopt positive approach to streamline services and protect public utilities.
The Minister said this while chairing a high level meeting of senior officers of various departments convened to review their functioning here today.
The meeting was attended by IG Jammu, Dilbagh Singh, Director Social Welfare, Director School Education, RTO Jammu, Director Agriculture, Chief Engineer, RTIC, Commissioner JMC, Chief Engineer PDD, Chief Engineer R&B, Director Rural Development, Director CA& PD, Joint Director Tourism, Joint Director Animal Husbandry and other senior officers of concerned departments.
The Minister asked the Chief Engineers of PHE and PDD to streamline supply of power and water in Jammu so that the people may not face much inconvenience in the prevailing hot conditions. She asked the PDD functionaries to take measures to plug power pilferage and avoid prolonged power cuts.
Chief Engineers PDD apprised the Minister about the measures taken by the department to cope with the increased load in prevailing hot conditions. She said the department has made available special feeders for PHE to help it to maintain water supply. She told the chair that due to unregistered load the department was facing lot of difficulty to avoid unscheduled power cuts and voltage fluctuations.
The Minister was informed that to cater to the need of water scarce areas alternate sources have been put in place so that the people are not deprived of this vital amenity.
The Minister asked the Irrigation and Flood Control authorities to make functional all the defunct irrigation tube-wells/bore-wells, pump sets, by replacing the damaged transformers, motors and also ensure irrigations facilities through Ranbir and Pratap canal up to tail end.
Later, the Minister chaired a meeting of officers of Social Welfare Department and reviewed the physical and financial achievements.
The Minister reviewed the disbursement of old age and widow pensions under state and centrally sponsored schemes, working of Anganwari centres and nutrition and health checkups conducted at the centers. She directed to complete nutrition purchase process at the earliest so that no Anganwari centre was deprived of proper nutrition. The Minister said that the Social Welfare Department has allotted non-nutrition funds to impart trainings like tailoring, cutting, soft toy making and beautician courses to adolescent girls.
The Minister asked the Social Welfare functionaries to take steps to clear all pending old age and Widow Pension cases at the earliest so that the benefit could reach to the deserving lot.
