Sakina distributes cheques among beneficiaries

JAMMU, July 26:  Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo on Thursday distributed cheques worth Rs. 10 lakh among the beneficiaries under Post Matric Scholarship schemes during awareness cum- Cheque Distribution Camp organized by Social Welfare Department at Police Auditorium,   Gandhi Nagar.
MLA Bimla Luthra, Director Social Welfare Jammu, Mohammad Hussain Bhatti, renowned social worker Reeta Jatinder, Deputy Directors and Assistant Directors of Social Welfare Department, all CDPOs and District Social Welfare officer Jammu were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, Sakina Itoo said that with the liberal funding from the Central Government, several welfare schemes for the under privileged people are under implementation in every  nook and corner of the State. She stressed upon the people to come forward and avail the benefits out of these schemes.
The Minister said that Centrally sponsored schemes, like Rajiv Gandhi Scheme for Empowerment of Adolescent Girls commonly known as SABLA and Indira Gandhi Matrivta Sahyog Yojana(IGMSY), being implemented in selected districts, have  greatly helped  the young adolescent girls  to lead a dignified and healthy life. She said that there was a need   to replicate the welfare schemes in other districts for holistic development of the girls of the State.
Listing various schemes being implemented by the Social Welfare Department,   she said that 5 lakh beneficiaries were receiving pension from Social Welfare Department which itself was an achievement.
Ms. Sakina said that organizing such camps was of immense importance to make the targeted lot aware about the schemes in vogue. She underlined the importance of holding of such events for receiving feedback about the implementation of the schemes in far flung and remote areas.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Vimla Luthra said the Government was making concerted efforts to provide all the basic facilities to the people of the State at their door steps. She sought full cooperation from the people for the progress, development and prosperity of the State.
