Sakeena for holistic public awareness campaigns across J&K on benefits of Ayurveda

JAMMU, Sept 23: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo today virtually addressed the 10th National Ayurveda Day celebrations organised by Directorate of Ayush, J&K at Convention Centre, here.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar; Secretary Health and Medical Education, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah; Director Ayush, J&K, Dr. Suresh Kumar Sharma; Director Health Services, Jammu, Director Family Welfare J&K, MD JKMSCL, former Directors of Ayush, Healthcare professionals and other officers also attended the event, either in person or through video conferencing.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister underlined the significance of Ayurveda as one of the oldest and most effective systems of holistic healthcare. “Ayurveda embodies India’s cultural wisdom, offering a lifestyle and healthcare model deeply connected to nature. The theme ‘Ayurveda for People and Planet’ reminds us that the health of individuals and the health of the environment are inseparable. It is our responsibility to preserve this knowledge and make it accessible to every household.”, Minister Sakeena said.
The Minister called upon all the participants to carry out a dedicated awareness campaign on the benefits of Ayurveda so that people take due benefits from it.
“These celebrations will be fruitful only when the message of benefits of Ayurveda reach to common masses in every district, in every panchayat and every area of Jammu and Kashmir”, the Minister said.
The Health Minister further said that there is not much awareness about Ayurvedic medicines, highlighting that people should be made aware that Ayurvedic medicines have less side affect as compared to general medicines.
Meanwhile, Airports Authority of India (AAI), in collaboration with the Directorate of AYUSH J&K celebrated National Ayurveda Day at Jammu Airport with great enthusiasm. The event included a free Ayurveda health camp and an informative display of medicinal plants.
Passengers, airport staff, and stakeholders benefited from on-the-spot consultations, health check-ups and distribution of Ayurvedic medicines. Dr Nikhil Singh Jamwal and Dr Sonam Singh from the office of Chief Medical officer Jammu along with Dr Konika Bhagat (Medical Officer, AYUSH) and Ravinder Singh posted at PHC Jammu Airport, provided their services in the camp.
The celebrations were further highlighted by a visit from the Parliament Committee on Public Undertakings 2025-26, headed by its Chairman Baijayant Panda, along with committee members Shankarla Bani, Mukesh Rajput, Sukinjinder Singh Randhawa, Neeraj Dangi, and Dr Bhagwat Karad, emphasizing the significance of such health and wellness initiatives at public facilities like airports.
Airport Director B M Kaul spoke on the occasion.
CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM), Jammu celebrated the Day at its main campus with the theme “Ayurveda for People and Plant”. The event featured an Ayurveda expert lecture and a comprehensive medical health camp, marking a significant milestone in promoting traditional healing systems and their integration with modern medicine.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Zabeer Ahmed, Director, CSIR-IIIM Jammu, emphasized that Ayurveda represents total healing that addresses both emotional distress and physical sufferings while Dr H S Bali, Professor & Head, Department of Shalya Tantra, Jammu Institute of Ayurveda & Research (JIAR), Jammu, delivered a talk on “Surgery in Ayurveda: Ancient Wisdom Meets Advanced Technology”.
A health camp was also organized on the occasion in the Knowledge Resource Centre of the Institute by JIAR Jammu, and was inaugurated by Dr Zabeer Ahmed.
Dr Amit Nargotra, Senior Principal Scientist and Nodal Scientist of the event, Abdul Rahim, Chief Scientist and Head, RMBD&IST, Dr Kancherla Prasad, Principal Scientist, heads of various divisions of IIIM as well as Dr Rachin Shivgotra, Dr Palvi Dubey, Dr Shivani Bhat, Dr Kamalpreet Kaur, Dr Sushant Padha, Dr Abhinandan Manhas and Dr Chetanya Sharma from JIAR Jammu were present on the occasion.
