JAMMU, June 11: District Development Commissioner, Jammu, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, inaugurated a workshop on Heritage Properties organized by Indian National Trust for Art and Culture Heritage (INTACH), Jammu Chapter at Amar Mahal Palace, here today.
Convener, INTACH, S. K. Sahni, Director (CHCJLR), Prof. Anita Billawaria, Senior Architect, Sanjay Tikko, President Hotel Association, Kuldeep Wahi, prominent citizens, intellectuals and scholars were present on the occasion.
Underlining the importance of restoration and conservation of heritage properties in the State, the DDC called for holistic approach by the concerned agencies in preserving the historic and cultural wealth of Jammu and Kashmir. He said that places of heritage have greater historic value and these speak in detail about different aspects of our state’s civilization, adding that Jammu and Kashmir possesses rich heritage and remarkable archaeological and architectural characteristics.
The DDC stressed for organizing capacity building programmes to train the manpower specially stake holders, town planners, architects, teachers and people from civil society for protection of heritage properties. He called for massive involvement of educational institutions, volunteers and hired professionals for showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the state.
The DDC said that INTACH is doing yeoman job in preservation and restoration of heritage properties in the state. He asked the participants to put in their sincere efforts to protect and preserve heritage properties and assured that civil administration will provide all possible support to the organization to fulfil its mission.
The Convener of the organization explained about the enlisting and documentation of heritage properties and works being undertaken at different heritage sites of Jammu division for their restoration and conservation. He said that DPRs for preservation and conservation of heritage properties have been prepared and sent to Tourism Department for early restoration of these vital heritage sites to save the pristine glory of the State.
