KATHUA, Jan 3: Minister for Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Ali Mohammed Sagar inaugurated Panchayat Ghar building at Basantpur here today.
Speaking on the occasion, Sagar said that Government has initiated several steps to make Panchayati Raj Institutions as people driven entities so that they become solely responsible for the development of rural areas. He said Government is keen to improve the living conditions of people living in rural and far-flung areas. He said Government has empowered the panchayats to facilitate the direct implementation of various developmental and welfare schemes, besides allocated fourteen Government departments to oversee their performance and improving the services. He impressed upon the officers of line departments to extend full cooperation to the PRIs to fine tune the functioning further.
The Minister exhorted the officers to educate the rural masses about various schemes like MGNREGA, IAY, and SGSY etc being implemented by the Rural Development Department by organizing awareness camps in every panchayat. He directed the officers to involve Panchayati Raj functionaries who are close to the mind and heart of the people and well aware of their difficulties.
He appealed the people to avail benefits of development oriented schemes to foster the pace of development especially in remote and far off areas. He appealed the unemployed youth to grab the self employment opportunities available under Sher-e-Kashmir Employment and Welfare Programme  (SKEWPY), UDAAN and HIMAYAT to establish their income generating ventures.  He asked them to make self-help groups to en-cash the benefits of tailor made schemes to become self-reliant. He said youth should aim to become job provider in spite of job seeker.
