Sagar asks youth to imbibe reading culture

SRINAGAR, Aug 27: Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar today asked the youth to imbibe reading culture so that they can equip themselves with knowledge for development of their personality and intellect.
The Minister was addressing a huge gathering after inaugurating Garib Nawaz Gousia Public Library constructed by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation with an estimated cost of Rs 40 lakhs.
Mr Sagar said that the youth of the State and importantly those living in the old city Srinagar should be abreast with latest knowledge regarding different subjects and fields so that they can effectively compete in competitive exams at both national and international level and bring laurels to their respective areas.
Referring to the various developmental initiatives undertaken by the present Government for ensuring sustained development of the old City Srinagar, the Minister said that the steps have already been initiated for developing the historic city on heritage pattern for tourism attraction.
While referring to the initiatives undertaken by the Government for sustainment of the peace in the State, the Minister said that some vested interests are trying to disturbed the peaceful environs for their own ulterior motives and people should understand their mechanizations and defeat their nefarious designs.
Mr. Sagar while calling for sustained dialogue between India and Pakistan for settling all issues said that the separatists and mainstream parties are keen to see peace prevail in the interest of the sub-continent. He said ever since the present Government took over it has been advocating the settlement of all issues through the medium of political discourse between all the parties involved.
The Minister also announced an amount of Rs 2 lakh for purchase of books for the library to supplement the already existing literature there.
