SRINAGAR, Oct 30: Clarifying a report published in the October 29 edition of this paper under title  “Saffron Mission fails miserably’’, the Chief Agriculture Officer, Pulwama G H Guroo today said that  he has been misquoted.
In a statement issued here, he said the Saffron Missions is one of the best missions which has been implemented transparently and smoothly on the ground. The farmers of the area are highly satisfied and term the mission as a success as it has improved their socio- economic status, he added.
He said the flowering of the areas rejuvenated under the mission is significantly higher than their own traditional cultivated areas. The areas rejuvenated under mission have flowered over 20 percent in the first year of implementation which was expected after three years of planting.
He said however the flowering of the crop was delayed because of fall of temperature which is a physiological behaviour of the crop. The flowering has increased and there has been lush flowering due to rise in temperature in last two days which was viewed by all including ministers and experts during the inaugural ceremony of Saffron festival at Dassu Pampore on October 29, he added.
