KATRA, Feb 14: The strike of safaikaramcharis engaged with Municipal Committee Katra continued for the seventh consecutive day today.
Hundreds of safaikaramcharis assembled in the premises of Municipal Committee Katra and raised slogans against the Government and the concerned department for not conceding their demands.
Addressing the gathering, president of the Safaikaramcharis Union Katra Kala Ram alleged that the Government is not paying any heed towards their demands.
He demanded filling up of vacant posts as per seniority list, amendment in SRO-352 for upgrading daily wagers and casual workers for permanent cadre and regularization of those engaged before 2008.
Ram warned to intensify protest if their demands were not redressed at the earliest, adding that for any untoward incident, the Government and the concerned department will be responsible.
However, due to the strike by the safaikaramcharis, the pilgrims of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine are facing lots of  hardships due to heaps of garbage everywhere in the holy town Katra.
