JAMMU, Feb 14: Police foiled the protest march of casual labourers engaged with Power Development Department (PDD) to Civil Secretariat here today.
Hundreds of casual labourers under the banner of All J&K Casual Labourers Union, PDD assembled outside Press Club and raised slogans against the Government for not redressing their long pending demands. The protestors started marching towards Civil Secretariat, but were stopped by the police force deployed there.
Addressing the gathering, Sanjeev, State general secretary said that the Government’s callous attitude towards their demands has compelled them to hold protest.
“We are protesting for the past 66 days and the Government is least bothered about the hardships, which we are facing on daily basis”, he added.
He urged the Finance Minister to release Rs 6.5 crores immediately for disbursement among casual labourers as committed by the Chief Minister around one year back.
He demanded release of wages, conversion of PDL and proper regularization policy.
If our demands were not addressed at the earliest, they will come on road and hold massive protest against the Government, he warned.
