BhadErwah, Aug 27: Contractual and daily wage Safaikaramcharis and other staff of Municipal Committee Bhaderwah (MCB), who are on the three days strike in support of their demands to regularise their services held a protest here at Pasri Bus Stand.
Even after passing of several years, a number of safaikaramcharis and sewerage men working on contract basis are still waiting for regularisation of their jobs.
Notably, a number of safai karamcharis have been demanding regularisation of jobs for a long time, but to no avail.
Protesting employees of MCB said that they are grateful to residents of Bhaderwah in particular and different Government agencies in general for recognising their work and efforts during COVID-19 pandemic but now they need regularisation of their jobs for a secure future for them and their families.
A group of the protesting contractual employees said, “We are underpaid but we work for equal hours as regular employees. The Government must increase our salaries and regularize our jobs.”
They said that the safaikarmcharis, sewerage men and other daily wage staff had been working in the MCB for the past several years, but their jobs were not regularized despite repeated assurances.
“Our monthly income is very low and it is hard to meet the daily needs. Moreover, we are forced to work under unsafe conditions due to unavailability of safety kits. The Government should take necessary measures for the welfare of safaikaramcharis, sewerage men and other daily wage staff”, said Mohammad Abbas, President Safaikaramcharis Union Bhaderwah.
“We should be regularized on priority basis and the cases related to the contractual employees should be referred to the Lieutenant Governor, for taking early suitable action”, he demanded.
Others who spoke on the occasion were Mohammad Abbas, Mehboob Ahmed, Imtiaz Ahmed, Mohan Kumar, Brijesh Yogi, Basharat Ganai, Abida Begum, Nageena Begum and Mohammad Sajid.
