KATHUA, Dec 2: Taking a serious note of heaps of garbage lying in the town due to weeklong strike by Safai Karamcharis’ Union , the Municipal Council Kathua, Chief Executive Officer,  Santosh Kotwal and his team started cleanliness drive at Main Chowk, as the Safai Karamcharis had struck work since last seven days.
As protesting Safai Karamcharis saw that the cleanliness drive is begin started by MC officials, they came out of MC premises and opposed the action. They strongly protested and stopped the officials from cleaning the town.
They snatched the broom from the hands of officials and declared it a conspiracy to foil the agitation.
The CEO MC, Kathua Santosh Kotwal said that the town in full of filth and garbage and people are facing problems. The Safai Karamcharis are on strike and under such circumstances MC officials decided to take steps to clean the town by themselves.
He said that the MC will take the help of Police to clean the city.
The similar scene was witnessed at Municipal Committee, Lakhanpur when Deputy Director, Urban Local Bodies,  Maximun Gorki , MC president, Rakesh Sharma started the cleanliness drive at Gate way of Lakhanpur following the garbage scattered here and there creating health hazards and giving a shabby and bad look. The Safai Karamcharis started protesting and heated exchanges took place between them and officers. Later the police rushed to the spot and pacified the situation.
The Safai Karamcharis said that they are fighting for their rights and demanding permanent status. They are on strike since last seven days. The Government wanted to abort their strike. But warned that they will not tolerate any action of Government.
