UDHAMPUR, July 1: Seeking regularization of the Safai Karamcharis and highlighting other demands, Akhil Bhartiya Safai Mazdoor Sangh Udhampur today held a strong protest demonstration in front of the office of Municipal Committee Udhampur and began four-day dharna.
They were protesting against the new recruitment system as per the service selection board. “We will continue out protest dharna till July 4 for regularization of our employees who’ve been working in the Municipality from last 20-25years,” they said.
“Also 99.9 percent of our Safai Karmcharis are illiterate and Service Selection Board is demanding qualified and literate workers for recruitment. The Safai Karmacharis, Driver, peons etc, who are illiterate and have been working since the last 20-25 years are not in a position to get qualification certificate and appear in the interview,” they explained.
Shouting slogans, the protesters demanded that all the daily wager Safai Karamcharis should be regularized besides implementation of Minimum Wages Act in the J&K UT. They were also demanding settlement of all pending cases of SRO 43, providing a room for Safai Karmcharis in all Municipal Committees, clearance of pending arrears of 7th Pay Commission to all employees, NPS card and details of all Safai Karamcharis, grant of extra 2 and half days wages to all Safai Karamcharis, etc.
Four- day protest dharna has been organized under the supervision of Girdhari Lal, Urban Local Body working president J&K and David Sandhu, Vice President Akhil Bhartiya Safai Mazdoor Sangh Udhampur District.
