JAMMU, May 13: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra today visited the Government Medical College (GMC) and Hospital in Jammu to enquire about the civilians injured in the recent cross-border shelling by Pakistan in Poonch district as several injured people have been shifted to the GMC for specialized treatment.
During his visit, Sadhotra interacted with the attending doctors and was briefed on the condition of the injured, many of whom are undergoing critical care in the Intensive Care Unit and emergency wards. He lauded the dedication and service of the medical staff, describing doctors and paramedics as “the real hope” for the suffering, especially in such times of crisis.
Sadhotra strongly condemned the unprovoked shelling from across the border, terming it a barbaric act that brought untold suffering to peaceful civilians. He extended heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
Acknowledging the resilience of border residents, he said, “Their courage and unity amid repeated disruptions is an inspiration to all.” He also called for immediate surveys of damaged properties and urged the administration to ensure timely and adequate compensation for affected families.
Highlighting the Government’s response, Sadhotra praised the initiatives taken by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to reach out to the distressed population along the Line of Control and International Border. He noted the Government’s efforts to assess the damage and provide essential support, including health care and temporary shelter.
Reiterating the NC’s commitment to the welfare of border communities, Sadhotra assured continued support for rehabilitation and protection measures. “The party stands firmly with the people during this hour of grief and hardship,” he said.
Others who accompanied Sadhtora were Mohd Ayoub Malik (provincial secretary), Chander Mohan Sharma and Raghubir Singh (district presidents), Ab Gani Teli (OBC president), Ashwani Charak (block president), Ch Razak and S Bunty.
