JAMMU, July 17: Minister for Planning and Development, Ajay Sadhotra, today called for more push to the development projects under execution, saying the objective should be to percolate down benefits to the targeted segment of population on immediate basis.
“For ensuring time bound completion of projects, a mechanism of physical verification has been launched that is working absolutely well”, Mr Sadhotra said while addressing a meeting of Additional District Development Commissioners and District Statistical and Evaluation Officers of the Jammu division. He reviewed the status of physical verification of 411 centrally sponsored and special projects/schemes under different departments across the region.
He said, “the physical verification of works has resulted in speedy execution and implementation of such of the schemes which were lying defunct for the past several years”.
During the meeting, the officers apprised the Minister about the status of physical verification of R&B projects, water supply schemes, health care schemes and animal and sheep husbandry projects. They also briefed about the observations and recommendations for different projects to ensure their effective implementation.
The Minister said that the objective of initiating this innovative initiative last year by the Planning Department is to ensure that the Government funds are being utilized judiciously and progress under different development programmes becomes discernible. He said that after physical verification of works corrective measures were suggested to the concerned departments and executing agencies resulting in speedy completion and functioning of various vital schemes especially WSSs. He said that the effort of the Government is to make the institution of ADDCs and DSEOs a vibrant unit of the Government to get optimum result from welfare and development programmes.
Terming the role of ADDCs and DSEOs as of utmost significance in development process, the Minister asked them to work hard and continue their efforts with same spirit to give a distinct recognition to their department in the Government mechanism.
During the meeting, several suggestion were given to further streamline working of this vital department like skill development of ADDCs and DSEOs in specific fields to enable them verify works in a professional way.
Among others, Principal Secretary Planning and Development, Directors Planning and Development, Regional Joint Director Evaluation and Statistics, Additional District Development Commissioners, and District Statistical and Evaluation Officers from all the districts of Jammu division attended the meeting.
