MENDHAR, Sept 20: Reassuring all possible help to flood sufferers, Minister for Planning and Development Ajay Sadhotra and Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today said focused attention is being paid towards rehabilitation of those whose houses have been damaged during the natural calamity.
“This is imperative because of ensuing winter months and lesser working season available for undertaking renovation or reconstruction of houses besides restoration and up-gradition of various utility services”, the Provincial President said during the tour of high level National Conference delegation to the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri on the instructions of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Mr Rana said that an overview of the damages speaks of colossal losses but the actual position will be known only after survey and assessment, which is currently underway. He said the damages to houses, infrastructure and crops has been immense and special measures are required to be taken to coupe up with the situation. He, however, lauded the administration for its initial response that helped save precious lives in a big way. “The Chief Minister has been monitoring the rehabilitation and relief measures himself and the field teams deputed for the purpose are keeping him abreast with the progress in provide relief to the sufferers”, he maintained.
The Provincial President appreciated National Conference workers determination to reach out to those affected by the natural calamity and hoped that they will remain in the forefront in rendering whatever assistance is required to ensure relief to the sufferers. “It is time to rise above politics and wipe out tears of the sufferers and ensure their rehabilitation on immediate basis.
Speaking to various groups of sufferers, Planning Minister Sadhotra reiterated the commitment of Omar led Government to mitigate the sufferings of the people and ensuring reconstruction and rehabilitation on priority basis. He said that action plan is being put into place to ensure optimum results in a time bound manner.
Mr Sadhotra gave an overview of relief measures taken so far and told the sufferers not to feel alone at this hour of crisis as the entire State was behind them.
After taking a detailed briefing from the district level administrative heads of various developmental departments, Mr Sadhotra sought the restoration work to be prioritized, saying this is important for reaching out to the affected population.
Senior National Conference leader and Deputy Chairman Legislative Council Javed Rana assured of all necessary assistance for their rehabilitation.
