JAMMU, July 4: National Conference (NC) additional general secretary and former Minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra has urged for strengthening mobile and internet connectivity along the Baltal and Pahalgam routes leading to the Holy Cave Shrine of Shri Amarnath Ji, citing poor network coverage as a significant hurdle for pilgrims undertaking the sacred journey.
In a statement issued from Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Sadhotra emphasized that a reliable communication network is not just a facility but a necessity for a pilgrimage of such magnitude and complexity, given the difficult terrain and unpredictable weather in the South Kashmir Himalayas. He said the lack of real-time communication is adversely affecting pilgrims’ ability to stay in touch with their families.
“Thousands of devotees undertake this spiritually enriching journey each year, and uninterrupted mobile and internet services are crucial for their safety, mental peace, and connection with their loved ones,” he stated.
Sadhotra urged telecom service providers to ensure high-quality mobile services on both routes. “The concerns of pilgrims must be addressed on a war footing. They deserve seamless digital connectivity throughout the Yatra route — from Baltal and Pahalgam up to the Cave Shrine and back — to stay updated on weather conditions and movement advisories,” he added.
Highlighting the importance of robust digital infrastructure, Sadhotra said that dependable network connectivity is essential not only for pilgrims but also for coordination among administrative, health and security agencies deployed along the route.
“At a time when digital connectivity is a basic necessity, poor services can compromise the safety and overall experience of the pilgrims,” he remarked.
He described the Amarnath Yatra as a national spiritual event that showcases India’s pluralistic and devotional ethos. “It is the responsibility of all stakeholders — particularly the administration and telecom service providers — to ensure that pilgrims carry back safe and pleasant memories of their spiritual odyssey,” Sadhotra said.
He also prayed for the smooth, peaceful and successful conduct of the ongoing Yatra.
