Sacrilegious act in Marwah

JAMMU, Dec 18: Tension gripped Marwah last night after local people detected a thief at a temple at village Chanjar in Kishtwar district and raised an alarm.
DIG Doda-Ramban range Ashkoor Wani said a thief entered inside the temple at village Chanjar after breaking back side window of the religious place reportedly with a view to steal cash at about 8 pm. However, some local people spotted movement inside the temple and raised an alarm.
A large number of people from the villages gathered at the spot but the thief managed to escape taking cover of darkness as the light was also off in the village at that time.
The DIG clarified that no theft either of any idol or donation box was reported from the temple. He said SSP Kishtwar Sanjay Kotwal flew to the spot this morning and talked to the agitated people after which the tense situation was brought under control.
A case has been registered and police was trying to identify and apprehend the thief, he said.
Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Kishtwar president Hans Raj Parihar has voiced concern over the incident and demanded protection for religious places of the minorities.
Local people, however, alleged that the thief had desecrated the idols.
