JAMMU, Dec 18: Ahead of the much awaited talks between Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan, scheduled for December 24 at Wagah border in Punjab, India and Pakistan today held a flag-meeting for ensuring calm and peace along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.
“A flag meeting at Battalion Commander’s level was held between India and Pakistan at 11.30 am today along LoC at the Chakan-Da-Bagh crossing point near Poonch,” Defence spokesman S N Acharya said.
“Both delegations were led by Colonel-level Officers and discussed ceasefire violations and the need to abide by the tenets of the existing ceasefire agreement between the two countries,” the spokesman said.
The talks were held in a cordial environment and both sides have agreed to give due consideration to the issues raised by the other side, he said, adding that this meeting was proposed by the Indian side with an aim to restore peace and calm along the Line of Control.
Both sides discussed ceasefire violations and the need to abide by the tenets of the existing ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
Official sources said presently a virtual calm prevailed on the LoC in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri with no major ceasefire violation or infiltration attempt reported from Pakistan side. However, the flag meeting was long overdue, they said, adding that it would help in further restoration of normalcy on the LoC.
