Sacrifices rendered by martyrs will always be remembered: DY CM

JAMMU: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh today said that the scarifies rendered by the Martyrs for upholding the cause of nation will always be remembered

The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at a function organized to pay tributes to martyrs of 1953 at Jourian here today

Speaking on the occasion DY CM said that people of the state have been spilling their blood for integrity of county and hold aloft the ideals of Nation. These are the occasions to pay tribute to people from all walks of life who have contributed their bit in nation building.

Remembering these martyrs, Dr Singh said that Jourian town has the distinction of being the land of martyrs and it is a matter of pride for the people who are born here.

He said that although we are paying tributes to the  seven martyrs of Jourian who were the nationalist youth but in our state still people get martyrdom everyday as our soldiers, members of para-military forces, policemen and even civilians lay down their lives for the cause of the nation.

These martyrs deserve the real salutes as they left the luxuries of life and jumped into the movement and put example for the future generation, he added.

While referring to the border shelling and the sacrifices rendered by the people living along it, Dr Singh said that they have also been rendering their part for nation which is praiseworthy and needs to be appreciated by every country man.

Kisan Welfare Advisory Board vice Chairman, Daljeet Singh Chib said that while a soldier fights on the borders, these martyrs fought without gun and uniform for the sake of the nation and hence they are the real heroes.

MLA, Akhnoor, Rajeeev Sharma said that mere remembering these martyrs on a particular day is not enough. The real tribute to them would only be if we all take pledge to take their mission ahead and ensuring free flow of Indian Constitution.

MLC Vikram Randhwa said that it is due to the supreme sacrifices of these martyrs that we see Indian tri-colour flying everywhere in the State.

Later, MLC Vikram Randhwa and MLC Sardar Charand Jeet Singh Khalsa announced Rs 10 lakh each for construction of Shaheedi Sthal, a memorial constructed in memory of seven Martyrs namely Mela Ram, Baryam Singh, Baldev Singh, Basant Ram, Nanak Chand, Trilok Singh and Sain Singh.
