NEW DELHI:  Launching  sharp attack on the RSS, Congress Vice-president Rahul Gandhi today said that they wanted to change the Constitution.

Speaking at Janata Dal (United) leader Sharad Yadav’s ‘Sanjhi Virasat Bachao’ event , Rahul also charged the RSS of filling every institution in the country with its own people.

”The RSS is aware that its ideology cannot win elections in the country. Therefore, it is attempting to fill every institution with its own people,” Rahul said at the event, also attended by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, senior Congress leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ahmed Patel.

Mr Sitaram Yechury of the CPI(M), D Raja of the CPI and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babu Lal Marandi also attended the meeting.

Accusing the RSS of trying to impose its ideology on the people of the country, Rahul said,”the RSS says that this is our country, while telling people with differing ideologies that they do not belong to the Nation.”

They beat up Dalits in Gujarat and told them that this country belonged to us and they (Dalits) did not belong to it,” Rahul added.

”There are two ways of looking at the country — one is that this country belongs to me while the other is that I belong to the nation. This is the difference between us and the RSS,” the Congress Vice-president said.

Mr Gandhi alleged that until they came in power at the Centre, the RSS never saluted the National Flag.

Attacking the BJP Government at the Centre, Rahul charged them of failing to fulfill the promises made to people during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

”The BJP did not keep its promise of bringing back black money to the country and providing jobs to the youth,” he said.

He also accused the Government of turning a blind eye to the plight of the farmers.

”They are helping corporates, but not farmers. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley says in the Lok Sabha that loan waiver is not the policy of their Government. For them it does not matter if the farmers are dying,” Rahul said.

Describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ as a failure, he said, ”Modi Ji gave ‘Make in India’ but most things are ‘Made in China’. Truth is that Modi Ji’s Make in India has failed.”

Speaking at the event, senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said the original JD(U) was with Mr Sharad Yadav. ”The Original JD(U) is with Sharad Yadav. What Nitish Kumar has is BJP(U),”Azad said.

Called by JD(U) Rajya Sabha MP Sharad Yadav, the Sanjhi Virasat Bachao event is being seen as Yadav’s show of strength and a clear message to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The event is being seen as Mr Yadav’s show of strength and a clear message to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The aim of the event is to save the composite culture of the country. (AGENCIES)
